We had yet another lovely evening at The Cork and Bottle, just love this place which is such a haven in such a busy part of London. Altough the food was excellent the portions seemed smaller than I remembered from last time and my husband litterally had 11 chips on his plate of Chicken Kiev and "chips". We were reassured this was the correct portion for this dish but were quickly offered a small portion of chips as an extra if he wanted which was much appreciated by his hungry stomach!
the Cork and bottle in leicester square. quite a cramped basement wine bar very well located by Leicester square. good value for a pre theatre drink and meal. I would pass on the grazing platters and just go for the mains if you have a short time. service and value good. only very thin people can use the ladies as the doorway is very narrow.
We had booked a table for pre theatre dinner, we arrived at 6pm, but the service was so slow we had to chase up our main courses, at least they came together. The starter was very poor value for money but overall the food was tasty and well presented. The ladies toilet door didn't or lock and clearly this has been an issue as there were kick marks on the door. The bar / restaurant was small, cramped & noisy, it's not somewhere I would return for a meal but as a bar I think it's OK.
The Cork & Bottle is a great little cellar wine bar off Leicester Sq. I met a friend there just before Christmas. It was busy and a bit cramped but characterful. Champagne for £7.15 a glass was a good start. Service was elusive and slightly erratic: we ordered green olives and got black, tho they were changed without fuss, and getting tap water took several reminders. My fish pie was delicious, tho my friend's fish & chips was meagre for £13. We went to Gaby's for coffee & cake.
I went to the Cork & Bottle in London for a quick pre-theatre meal, having been there a number of times a few years ago. The ambience is great. The waitress was good at advising how long the meal would take. The menu wasn't as good as I remembered, with not many healthy options.
