Winter Exhibition at E and R Cyzer

Our Winter Exhibition includes fine works by a selection of Modern Masters, including Max Pechstein, Marino Marini, Fernand Léger, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Jean Dubuffet, Maurice de Vlaminck, Chaïm Soutine and Kees van Dongen. A focal point of the show is the spectacular and unusual work in gouache and India ink by Léger, 'Les plongeurs aux perroquets', painted in 1934. It makes up part of a series by Léger known as ‘Les Cycles’, upon which the artist embarked in the 1930s with the aim of exploring the human figure in motion. Themes such as country outings, cycling and diving were employed to animate the compositions of this period, which are remarkable for their free use of colour and fluidity of line. Also of note in the exhibition is an important example from Jean Dubuffet’s 'Hourloupe' series entitled 'Arbres, boeuf et paysan' (1965).
