St John Hotel Restaurant

About St John Hotel Restaurant

St. John Hotel Restaurant in Leicester Square right next to the beating pulse of London’s Theatreland where Chinatown takes on the West End and Soho is just over the road is the place where superchef Fergus Henderson has staked out his new restaurant-with-hotel. This is the former home of Soho icon Manzis, and Henderson’s nose-to-tail eating is now branching out to dawn-to-dusk and table-to-bed. Chef is Tom Harris, formerly sous chef at St John in Clerkenwell, producing the succinctly-described but luscious modern English cuisine that Henderson is rightly celebrated for. The British ingredients are of the highest order and every bit of everything is put to use in the kitchen. If you’re stopping here pre-theatre, staff will know your curtain time and will move you through your meal accordingly, and it’s open til very late. If you know the original St. John, the minimalist, austere style of the dining room at St. John Hotel restaurant will be familiar indeed, as will the menu, wines and friendly, intelligent service.

St John's was a great night out for us. Great, adventurous food, polite service and fantastic atmosphere.

We had dinner at St John Hotel Restaurant. Food was excellent, strongly recommend the pig's cheek. Service was outstanding as well, very knowledgeable staff. Will go back.

A second visit to St John Hotels Retaurant but early on a Sunday evening when NB the usual pre-theatre menu is not offered. Hence a la carte which struck us as on the expensive side - £16.50 for smoked haddock, not a lot of, in a somewhat unevenly distributed sauce, dry one side, under mashed potatoes does not seem good value. Service pleasant but laid-back to a degree that some might find off-hand. Not so deterred that we won't go again but overall a little bit disappointing.

Great food as always at St John Hotel. Went for the set lunch deal for 2 courses, where the portions are pretty substantial. Have marked down the ambience a bit as although the main restaurant is great the bar upstairs is a bit clinical. Am often against background music but I think a little could have been welcome when it's quiet.

Not cheap, but really good and original cooking. Great staff who know what they are selling. Go!
