Rex Whistler Restaurant
About Rex Whistler Restaurant
The Rex Whistler Restaurant at Tate Britain is home to one of the most original dining rooms in London, bringing together a great modern British menu, award winning wines and a spectacular and famous mural. Popular with a sophisticated crowd, The Rex Whistler Restaurant has become a tradition for many gallery goers. Head Chef Paul Newbury has created a delightful menu of contemporary British dishes that suit a broad range of tastes, and the restaurant is also the home of the award winning Tate wine list compiled by Head Sommelier Hamish Anderson. The ethos of the Tate list at the Rex Whistler Restaurant remains very much as it did when the restaurant opened in 1972 - the list is about excellent value fine wines from all over the world. The specially commissioned mural which surrounds the restaurant is titled ‘The Expedition in Pursuit of Rare Meats’ and was finished by Rex Whistler in 1927.

This is a pleasant place. Lunch was very nice, while not great. Service was excellent.
There is a very decent set-lunch menu at an affordable price, whichis strongly recommended. Service is decent, if not quite to the level of the a la carte prices. The surroundings - in the form of the Whistler murals - are absolutely top-drawer.
Another very nice meal at the Rex Whistler Restaurant in the Tate Britain, London. The service and the food has been of a high quality every time I've eaten there.
Good set lunch at the Rex Whistler in Millbank. Perfect for a business meeting with good food & high quality service.
It was many years since my last visit to Rex Whistler Restaurant and we were delighted by an excellent set lunch menu and carafe of wine before the Picasso exhibition (which is big and needs lots of energy). The marinated (cooked) veal was particularly good. Because of current building works, access is only from Millbank and the nearest loos are round the corner in the 'new' wing which is quite a trek between courses! Appropriate signage is totally lacking - hence the score of 1.
