We went for dinner in Canteen (Spitalfields market). The food was basic British canteen classics and was good, if a little overpriced - I think you pay a bit extra for the concept and the setting which are both interesting. The service here was very quick and friendly.

The food, when it arrived was good, however we had to wait an hour for it and no apology was offered. It was during a busy period and once it had been mentioned, the service charge was removed without complaint. Overall I would give this restaurant another chance purely because I enjoyed the food. i would be keen to see if this visit was an exception to the norm.

A last min booking at Canteen. It was 20 mins before someone came to take our drinks order, in a not very busy restaurant with 4 servers. We ordered the main at the same time to save time. Mains arrived a side dish had to be reminded about. Food was lovely, so we had desserts, mine was the apple crumble which it didn't specify anywhere that it would be laced with hazelnuts! Not good if you have an allergy. Problems getting the bill - we actually stood up and put coats on to get attention.

Perfect location for a post-work meal and at 2 coursesd for £10, this is the best value meal around in my opinion. The service is very friendly and helpful and the ambience and decor are simple but welcoming. The pies are delicious and the onion gravy - a MUST have! If I was to pick a hole, they often run out of some ingredients for the £10 menu, therefore reducing your options but it is still worth a visit
