The Driver
About The Driver
This boutique gastro kitchen is a haven of chic homeliness amongst the hustle and bustle of London's Kings Cross. Located on Wharfdale Street, The Driver is part Manhattan loft, part British boozer with its open fires, reclaimed furniture and cherry red leather sofas - and the restaurant attracts a trendy crowd of both locals and city commuters who fancy a hearty lunch or a cosy evening meal. The restaurant features an exquisite vertical garden designed by Patrick Blanc, and the venue also has a roof terrace with picturesque views of the capital. The international menu has a distinct Brit twist, and we love the basil and watermelon Caiprinias; the salmon and cod fishcakes with shoestring fries; and the wild berry cheesecake.

Ordered the steak, big mistake, tough and tasteless... Room was dark and cold too, and the service rather sporadic.
Had another good lunch at the Driver, Kings Cross, today for five people. Highlights of the meal included a wild mushroom risotto, and a very flavourful tomato and basil soup. Both were great.
The Driver, Kings Cross, London was a great location for Kings Cross station with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
Lovely pub (has restaurant upstairs, but this was closed on my visit) with a small but interesting menu. The food was well presented and beautifully cooked (my lamb was cokked to within an inch of perfection and was beautifully flavoured). Nice wine selection though more deserts would have been nice. They do a range of seasonal/market fresh dishes which, annoyingly are not hi-lighted on the meun, so well worth asking staff what's the seasonal/market dish. Well worth investigating
Been passed The Driver loads of time, or for drinks downstairs, but never to the restaurant on the first floor. It was great actually - smart clientale, not huge choice but enough, well presented table and food, passed the test of my fussy - but local - dining partners. Get's busy too, which is a good sign...but tables spaced out enough not for this to be a problem.
