About The Ambassador
The Ambassador is committed to creating a new category of neighbourhood café that maintains the classic values of warmth and affordability, whilst delivering superior food, wine and service. The menus are appropriate for the time of day and the seasons, so at breakfast expect items such as hot waffles with sweet cured bacon, at lunch there are light one plate options as well as a 2 course set lunch. At dinner there are more crafted dishes from carefully sourced ingredients. The 100 bin wine list explores Europe in depth, focusing on its lesser-known regions and grape varieties, there are also some quirky selections from the New World. At least 20 are always available by the glass and in 50cl carafes. The room pays homage to the utilitarian style of the 1940’s with a long, dark wood bar, red leather banquettes and Formica topped tables. When the sun shines there are 20 seats at outside tables, an excellent spot for people watching on vibrant Exmouth Market.
Toptable says about The Ambassador
Exmouth Market has more than its fair share of critically-acclaimed restaurants, the Ambassador Café among them. For all its fame, decked out in grey lino flooring, white globe lights and Formica tables, it looks rather unremarkable. All the detail has cleverly gone into the terrific, 'I wan't everything' Modern European menu. There's breakfast (buttermilk pancakes with treacle bacon), Sunday brunch (Macaroni cheese), a great-value set lunch, and dinner. Oh, the dinner. Talk about mouthwatering... Perfectly poached halibut in the sweet, savoury juices of carrots, cabbage and Alsace bacon combined. Braised pork belly with fluffy gnocchi, bulbous broad beams and garlic. Gorgeous stuff. And that's before you've got to the 'oh yummy!' dessert list. When the sun's a shinin', you can eat outside on the cobbled market street. Nice.

Although the Ambassador Cafe has been open for nearly 3 years now, it still feels fresh - the staff are lively and enthusiastic, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the food well presented and tasty. Another establishment on Exmouth Market that we'll be coming back to!
I have been to the Ambassador Cafe in Exmouth Market several times before and always enjoy a meal there. The staff have the rare knack of being both very professional and friendly and informal. The food is reliably good if not amazing and exciting. My only quibble is the price - I wish it was about 20% cheaper.
An excellent brunch, lively atmosphere, friendly staff, I will definitely be back to the Ambassador Cafe
The Ambassador was a great spot for lunch on a sunday - will certainly be going back soon! great food and great service.
I wanted to love The Ambassador. I really did. But alas, it was not to be. The banquettes were slouchable, the coffee delicious and the laid-back atmosphere just the right side of buzzy - but the food just didn't quite live up to its promises. Toast arrived cremated and cold, and the Eggs Benedict - while tasty - were lukewarm and meagre for the Exmouth Market prices. Having been praised to the skies by every diner in London, maybe we just got The Ambassador on one of his off days.
