About Fan Museum

This unique museum houses the world's finest collection of fans including exquisite examples from the 18thC and 19thC. Exhibitions are changed every 4 months. Its beautifully restored 1721 houses provide a superb and elegant setting. Together with the landscaped Japanese-style garden, the spectacular orangery with its much-admired mural and fascinating gift shop. The Fan Museum offers something to appeal to the widest possible range of tastes and interests.

    The Fan Museum holds regular fan making workshops on the first Saturday afternoon of each month. These sessions are conducted by an expert tutor who will not only provide expert guidance, but also a wealth of knowledge about the history and craft of the fan.

    These regular fan making workshops are conducted by an expert tutor. During the classes the participants make two fans, one of the traditional Chinese shape, the other of the Fontange shape, an early 20th Century Chinese design.

     
  • The Fan Museum Collection

    The Fan Museum has over 3500 fans and fan leaves which include the splendid Hélène Alexander collection and further gifts and bequests which have been received since the museum’s incipience ten years ago. The collection is comprehensive, with examples from all over the world from the 11th century to the present day. However the collection is particularly strong in 18th and 19th century European fans.
