If life begins at forty, then some of Enfield's most fascinating history begins at Forty Hall! Of particular interest are the remnants of Elsyng Palace, one-time home of both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Forty Hall itself is a listed Jacobean building and the former home of Sir Nicholas Rainton, one-time Lord Mayor of London. Tours and exhibitions delve a little further into the estate's colourful past – and don't miss the 264 acres of open parkland, woodland and formal gardens.
