About Fountains Abbey

The Fountains Abbey is a beautiful, old fashioned Victorian pub situated right opposite St Marys Hospital in Paddington. The Fountains Abbey opened in 1824 and derived its name from two different sources. Fountains mark nearby sites of early known springs and wells, which were of great importance to the inhabitants. Abbey stems from Westminster Abbey which possessed the manor of Paddington during Saxon times - hence the name, Fountains Abbey.

Our range of drinks includes cask ale and an extensive wine list as well as a great range of soft drinks and coffees.

With fabulous British food to accompany our drinks, you can relax at this Taylor Walker pub over classics such as hand battered cod, chips and mushy or garden peas, traditional British recipe bangers & mash or a roast of the day seven days a week. Our pub food is freshly prepared and includes all your British favourites. We also offer a range of sandwiches and jacket potatoes.

We have heated outdoor areas and an upstairs dining room. This can cater for 50 guests seated and up to 100 standing.

Sir Alexander Fleming was a loyal regular at the Fountains Abbey. Legend says that it was mould spores from this ale house which blew through Fleming's window, leading him to the discovery of penicillin in 1928.
