Republic

About Republic

Kingston-upon-Thames’s first Polish restaurant, since its opening in 2010 Republic has become a fixture on the Surrey dining scene. Located in the very centre of town, the restaurant is very quickly filled with passers-by who are tempted in by the menu of Polish classics, making booking essential, especially at the weekend. Decorated in modern style, the colour scheme neutral and tasteful throughout, Republic is comfortable and bright, with plenty of elbow room and impeccably polite, friendly service. Representing excellent value for money, the menu here at Republic is extremely generous, packed with plenty of dishes from the Central European country, both those you’ll know well and those you might be less familiar with. Attention to detail is a Republic trademark, every ingredient carefully sourced to reflect the flavours of the various regions of Poland and every dish cooked freshly by an enthusiastic kitchen team keen to introduce a rarely seen national cuisine to the British restaurant scene.

The visit to Republic Kingston on Thames was an odd experience. Despite being advertised as a Polish restaurant we found that the menu had been changed to "Meditteranian" a day or two earlier. We were offered some polish items from the old menu, and a complimentary soup course. Unfortunately however we were the only two customers on a Friday evening and the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. Service was good, but the food was disappointing on the whole

Republic – (Polish) Kingston U.T. Austere atmosphere, blank unadorned walls, functional furniture. Lunch time special which is a “help your self all you can eat”, limited to 4 dishes and not very appetising. From a la carte menu had mixed dumplings to start: very good, except that larger of the dumplings had not been completely defrosted. As a result they did not charge for the starters. The main had potato pancakes (bit stodgy) topped with a pork stew: good, but over salted for UK tastes.

Very quiet for a Saturday night (only two tables occupied for the whole evening, including our's). Honey vodka lovely and food okay, although my pork was tough my friend's goulash was much better. We shared a plate of the dumplings for starters, which were nice. Very filling and no room for dessert! Good service.

I went there with my husband, bro in law and two great friends on Sat night. We didnt arrived until 9pm and there was only one table sitting in at the front. We ordered couple of starters to share, and one main each. When the starters arrived, we were surprised at the generous portion they gave us, and by the time we finished our mains, there were no room to try the desserts. Overall, the food tasted absolutely fabulous and the service was superb, we are definately going back there again!
