    Art

    1 Oct 2012 to 31 Oct 2012

Anna Wimbledon was born in Swansea in 1974 and educated at Central St. Martin's College of Art and Edinburgh College of Art. In 1996 she participated in Yale University Summer School of Music and Art, going on to win Andrew Grant Travel Scholarship to the United States. Subsequent prizes include John Kinross Travel Scholarship and Sir Robin Phillipson Memorial Medal. Esteemed since graduating as a portrait painter, with many commissions of single and group portraits to her credit, Anna Wimbledon sees herself as a painter of figures in the broadest terms, working with energy and bravura preferably on a large scale to create compositions around friends and acquaintances characterised by a sense of drama and latent tension and sometimes an ironic homage to master painters of the past. Represented by Francis Kyle Gallery since 2001, she has participated in the theme exhibitions Roma (2003), Lair of The Leopard: twenty artists go in search of Lampedusa's Sicily (2005), Everyone Sang: a view of Siegfried Sassoon and his world by contemporary artists (2006) and Rodina: Twenty five artists from the West winter in Russia (2008).
