About Launceston Place

Smart unstuffy and elegant Launceston Place is a small restaurant with a modern European menu

Toptable says about Launceston Place

A Kensington institution, Launceston Place was brought under the D&D wing in 2007 and has been returned it to its former glory as a Great British destination restaurant. Intimate both in its setting (away from the bustle of Ken's main thoroughfares) and its atmosphere, Launceston Place lends itself to romantic dinners a deux and grown up meals with grown up friends. With work from up and coming artists hanging on the walls set against warm, sophisticated chocolate tones throughout, the feel is contemporary living room meets chic gallery. Tristan Welsh's (formerly of Petrus) menu showcases quintessential British classics, with hits such as sirloin of long horn beef 'cobbler' with Lincolnshire cheddar and Guinness, or drunken quail, flambéed at the table to add a touch of food theatre. Don't miss the rather spectacular Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

Launceston Place was a very pleasant relaxed dining experience, with friendly helpful service and an ambiance that improved markedly when the lights dimmed softly.

Worth visiting again.

We went to Launceston Place on Saturday night and had a gorgeous night. Service was outstanding - very friendly and knowledgeable about special diet requests. The surroundings are lovely for a romantic dinner and the food was very high quality. The amuse bouche of cauliflower soup with truffle creme fraiche was amazing. The beef & potato parcels for starters and the suckling pig and veal for mains were all gorgeous. Smallish portions but we left feeling very full. Would definitely recommend!

This was a second visit to Launceston Place as it was so good the first time. A small cup of cauliflower and truffle soup, more a froth, started a delicious lunch. Each course was imaginatively and beautifully presented. There are thoughtful touches throughout and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. This is a place to linger over lunch. At £18 the menu was great value. Watch out for the mint tea at £4 per cup - but worth it to try the the molten chilli chocolate.

Launceston Place offers excellent quality food in a smart but relaxed environment. We enjoyed three excellent courses for £18 with a very well priced bottle of NZ Chenin Blanc for low £20's. We will definitely make a repeat visit.

Food was great. There were no veggie options on the set lunch menu and the chef offered us various alternatives which were really good.

The special offer was excellent value for money. Would highly recommend.
