The Lobster Pot

About The Lobster Pot

For more than fifteen years, The Lobster Pot in Kennington has been serving proper French food to their loyal South London regulars. The restaurant is well known for its kitsch nautical décor so it’s no surprise that fish and seafood features heavily on the menu. It’s all hand-picked at Billingsgate Market to ensure that only the freshest fish swims your way. Popular dishes include pan-fried fillet of grouper with Cajun spices and white butter sauce; traditional bouillabaisse; and grilled tiger prawns with garlic butter. There are meat and vegetarian options too and the pancakes for dessert are not to be missed. The Lobster Pot’s friendly staff and excellent French wine list make it ideal for a laid-back dinner with friends.

I got the seafood Ice tower as my starter/main meal. It was not good, everything was in its shells and there were no sauces except mayonaise. I added the extra 'half' lobster which was not really half lobster, the meat on it was maybe max 2 inches! Price tag = £37. Rating 4/10, I have had the seafood tower many places all over the world. This by far the worst. Desert I was told 'chocolate cake' it was filled with some sort of fruit jam, again 4/10. Overall, I won't be returning.

I am a regular Lobster Pot customer and fan. First; I just love their lobster both as steamed or grilled with drawn garlic butter. The small cousy restaurant has a wonderful ambiance, that you rarely exprience in larger establishments. The staff is always most attentive and the whole experience gets just better by the propietor's wife who greets you at the door and when Herve' himself goes from table to table to chat with his customers you feel really at home.

We attended The Lobster Pot, Kennington for a family meal which was enjoyable. Our booking was on the top deck (upstairs), however I was a little dissappointed that the service received and the ambience was not as good as before. All in all a good night out, however when booking I would ask to be seated downstairs as you are given more attention.

I think this must have been the cosiest and quirkiest restaurant I ever visited but not to the hinderance of the food, which was delicious. It isn't a cheap night and the service may be a little slow but that didn't bother me as it really is a super place so definitely head there if you want a nice treat and are happy to have a hearty chat.
