Having been on various fire fighting courses during my sea going career I thought it might be interesting to visit the Fire Brigade Museum the next time I visited London. You have to pre-book a visit as the guides are volunteers and presumably aren't there just waiting for the casual visitor to walk in off the street.

The museum covers the history of the London fire brigade from its inception right up to the present day with lots of exhibits and information sheets to take away. A visit can take anything from 1 to 2 hours and ends in the museum shop. However, that's where the problem lies as visits are only available at 1030 and 1400 and it would take far longer to really take everything in and read all the literature that accompanys the exhibits.

Judging by the comments in the visitors book I suspect very few Londoners, other than children on school trips, have ever been there or even know of its existence.

To sum it up - very interesting but could easily have spent a lot longer there.
