Villiers Terrace

About Villiers Terrace

Villiers Terrace restaurant and pub in London’s Crouch End is both a delightful local to visit frequently and a terrific restaurant serving traditional British cooking in a funkily stylish setting. Villiers Terrace’s name was pulled from Echo & The Bunnymen, just so you know. The décor is an eclectic melange of harlequin chairs, unmatched curtains and wallpapers, fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, velvet Chesterfield sofas and the original oak flooring and it all works brilliantly to create a stylish and elegant setting. Besides the pub and dining room, there’s a courtyard garden and a decked terrace, both havens from this busy part of town. The British menu under the direction of Terrence Williamson, formerly of The Engineer, has its classics, like fish and chips and steak with chips and horseradish butter, but takes a more innovative stance with starters. Only the highest quality seasonal produce is used. The international wine list is ranges from moderate to premium, all worth exploring, and there are premium beers too.

This was my second visit to Villiers Terrace for Sunday lunch. Our starters and desserts were of a very high standard but the main courses, although adequate were quite ordinary. For the second time, my roast potatoes weren't cooked properly, although the rest was fine. The wine was very good. The service is helpful and friendly and the ambience pleasant although, the room where we ate was a bit cramped. We did enjoy our meal and would return.

Unfortunately a very poor experience. The food was average. The waiting staff were overly keen to take our orders and then just forgot about us. It was really difficult to get their attention (the dining area we sat in was small so there was no excuse to just ignore us). It was not good value for money. The starters were shocking - one dish was basically a small fig cut in 4, a miserly portion of feta chese and some thinly sliced beetroot.

It was a rainy evening but the warm greeting and general atmosphere upon arrival welcomed us. The service was attentive and friendly, but not too obtrusive. The food was excellent - we shared a started of hummus with grilled beef which was divine and then our mains were equally as tasty - pork belly and chicken with chrizo. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert but we will definitely be back!

Lovely cosy pub with an open fire. Great service. Food was ok but not outstanding. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

We have move to the area a short while ago and now are testing the pubs and restaurants there. Villiers Terrace is a gastropub with a menu mostly upscale pub food but with some very nice twists and some other asian influences (for example, miso marinated cod). The food was very nice, the dining area nice - wooden tables, leather chairs, fireplace... While go there again.
