Merkato Restaurant near Angel and Kings Cross in London. We decided to pop down to Merkato on a Friday night before heading out. It seemed like it was a bit off the beat and track but it is really only a 10 minute walk from Kings cross or Angel stations and well worth it, I tell you. The food and the service were great! . I would suggest taking the half portions and trying more dishes. They give you that option; so that you can share four dishes between to of you.

Merkato in London was empty on a Friday night when we arrived at 7. The waitress was charming, the decor was lovely and the food was very tasty. However, the wine was overpriced (£17 for a bottle of house merlot) and some of the portions were a bit stingy (my partner ordered a lovely chicken stew for £9, which came with one small chicken drumstick and a boiled egg). Overall though, the friendliness of the service and the food itself make this a great place to dine.

Really enjoyed the food, especially the hot lamb sauce and various vegetables. The beef sauce was a little bit on the dry side. Very friendly and attentive service.

We all thoroughly enjoyed Merkato on Caledonian Road and will certainly be going back! The good reviews are well deserved. We were a bit worried by the photo, but it is an absolutely lovely place, very comfortable, the photo does not do the restaurant justice at all. I think the highlights were amongst the vegetarian dishes. Service was absolutely top notch. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
