Metro Garden Restaurants & Bar
About Metro Garden Restaurants & Bar
Metro Garden Restaurant’s beautiful garden is the big draw card at this quirky south London venue. Set just opposite Clapham Common, the bar and its comfy couches boast a view across the park, while out the back there’s a marquee and fully al fresco seating allowing diners to make the most of long summer evenings amongst the potted geraniums and fairy lights. In colder weather, heaters are provided, though there’s also a cosy indoor dining area with church pews and a spacious conservatory to choose from. Modern European cuisine is peppered with more international influences so that duck breast on mash is spiced up with a pecan and cashew crust and kumquat jus and haddock comes with roast sweet potato, green beans and lime crème fraiche. A lot of thought has gone into the extensive wine list or, if you’d rather, there are sublime cocktails to choose from. There are also a number of special menus available – weekend brunch, Sunday roast and the ‘Supper Club’ prix fixe menus available Monday to Thursday evenings.

Really nice meal, the food is really good and the atmosphere is pleasant, though it was perhaps a bit chilly. The service was really good at first, we had finished our starter and our main courses within an hour, but then when we were ready to order dessert (or look at the dessert menu) no-one was around to help us. This lasted for perhaps 30-40 minutes so we just paid the bill and left once someone did come by.
My boyfriend and I visited the Metro Garden in Clapham Common on Valentines night. We sat in the marquee area with pretty lights which was romantic . It was very busy as you would expect, however I felt the tables were packed too closely together, so much so we could pretty much hear the couples next to us whole conversation! It took a while for our food to be ordered but staff were helpful and friendly and appreciate it was a busy night. We had steak and sea bass and both were very good meals.
been here many times and always have a lovely evening!
The food was divine, very good value. We had fish dishes and Montepulciano (yes I know red / fish etc..) but they were fantastic. As it was raining we were in the conservatory (which needs its leaky roof fixing and a lick or five of paint) but it was charming particularly when it got dark. Good service, DELICIOUS food.
nice and cosy, good service. a little cramped however. i had booked a table within the marquee area, but this was closed. would have been good to know this wasnt available. lovely food, reasonably priced.
