The perfect London hotel - but check the invoice
This is a truly wonderful London hotel. The rooms are modern, comfortable and spacious, with superb facilities. It is superbly located - in the heart of theatreland, walking distance from Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Covent Garden, Westminster, the Royal Parks, Buckingham Palace and (on the other side of the revier) the National Theatre and Royal Festival Hall - not to mention one of the best views of the River Thames at Waterloo Bridge just a few metres away. This inevitably means heavy traffic all around, but there is almost no disturbance from traffic noise, thanks to the soundproofing of the window glazing.
Service is polite, attrentive and helpful. The public areas are stylish, with a great bar, and the excellent Axis and Indigo restaurants belonging to the hotel. We dined at he Axis and had breakfast in our room - the food was very good indeed.
None of this comes cheap, although it is worth checking for deals.
The only real fly in the ointment was that, when we checked out, the bill (invoice) presented to us overcharged us (in two respects). This was almost certainly inadvertent, and they readily corrected the error. But it suggested a slapdash approach to invoicing, at variance with the overall professionalism of the hotel.
But overall - highly recommended.
amazing location and perfect in every way
Just love this hotel - am just writing this report now having since stayed in London again recently (I didn't choose the hotel!) and although passable, not been as impressed. OK, the rooms are not huge but the service, position and overall quality of the hotel more than make up for this. Axis restaurant is superb and the Lobby bar, although heavy on the "business" types early on in the evening, chills out nicely later on. Lovely to have a central London hotel with a decent size pool which is great to swim in as it is chlorine free - very clean and no smell which was handy. although in the centre of town, noise is not a problems and the beds very comfortable. All in all, can't fault it.
Smart, great location
My OH took me to One Aldwych as a birthday surprise, with a limo pick up from the airport to the hotel. The location is supurb, central to many of the attractions, on the edge of Covent Garden & the theatre district. Our room overlooked the Lyceum theatre.
The hotel is trendy, well decorated, with a few quirky touches, and a good bar. Our room was not overly large, but a decent size for a major city. The bathroom was good, great shower & lovely REN toiletries.
The pool area is tiny, and the pool freezing - but this is London, so to have a pool at all is a treat!
I liked this hotel a great deal, and would praise the service standards of everyone we encountered working there.
Fantasic!!
Fantastic hotel, staff exceptionally friendly. Lovely room and the atmosphere in the hotel was very welcoming and relaxed. Would definately stay here again. Great location.
Great location - great hotel!
My husband, my 15 year old daughter and myself stayed at One Aldwych last week and it was a fabulous hotel. I have stayed in London 2 times before at The Claridges which was also wonderful but this hotel is in a great location near Covant Gardens. The staff was wonderful and the hotel was spotless and had the most comfortable beds on earth (next to the Claridges). I will stay there again on our next visit.
