Great for the money if you don't mind sharing
I stayed in the Orient Espresso for 4 weeks which I was really nervous about before I arrived. At first I was quite shocked at how basic the hostel was but it was cleaned every day and the rooms had fans and were nicely decorated. I met lots of people and never felt scared or unsafe as a sole female traveller staying in the mixed dorms. I didn't think the staff were too helpful but they can speak many languages which helps those from abroad. I found it hard to look nice while staying in the hostel as I was working every weekday - everything was tricky. It was better when i moved to the girls -only dormitory because it felt cleaner and lighter. I could get changed in my room rather than the shower and the rooms were on the top floor away from the traffic noise. It was very hot in the rooms as another reviewer wrote but it was fine. Overall it really could have been a hell of a lot worse for 100 quid a week!
If you are visiting London on a budget and you don't mind sharing a room with others then it is an absolute bargain. Remember your ear plugs (or get some free ones at the hostel) because then you won't wake up when others arrive at the room in the middle of the night!
If you are a couple - PLEASE don't sleep in the same bed - it just makes everyone feel uncomfortable!
You could do much worse than St. Christopher's
I stayed at St. Christopher's for a weekend trip with a friend. It is definitely a budget hostel for those looking to enjoy London, meet people, and who aren't opposed to having to having some fun. We're college students so budget was the biggest factor in our choice, so for the prices in London, St. Christoper's isn't bad. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms and showers were also clean. The staff and service aren't especially efficient, but they will help you if there's something you need. The pub downstairs can get rowdy and loud, but the front desk supplies ear plugs. The location isn't incredible, but there are plenty of small, cheap places to grab a bite in the local area, and the hostel is right between two tube stops so getting anywhere is pretty easy. Lockers are provided, but you must bring your own lock. Computers with internet are available also. Breakfast is minimal but sufficient.
Great Hostel
This was a great Hostel and good value. It was a lot of fun and a great location. I stayed there with a friend in a shared room. The rooms were very clean. The showers and bathrooms were clean. There were enough showers to accomadate everyone. The pub downstairs had a nice mix of guests as well as locals. The staff was as friendly as I expect a staff at a hostel to be. If you are young, want to experience London and meet a lot of great people, stay here.
OK for a bed
Stayed here for a few nights with some girlsfriends. The rooms were horribley warm, not the most comfortable sleep. Do not eat downstairs in the bar- horrible. There's a really nice Greek restaurant striaght across the road which is really tasty and very good value for money
Fantastic Hostel
I mainly picked this hostel due to its location - it is very close to a lot of the museums and historical locations that I would like to visit during my stay.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and made the stay as good as it was. I stayed in the female-only section of the hostel, which was very good. Hostel is both safe and secure.
Didn't go out for the nightlife, though it was an option, so I could have if I'd wanted. Internet came with a cost [£1 = 1/2 hour, £3 = 2 hours] but no more costly than internet cafes.
Free breakfast was provided in the bar at a convenient time.
