Good choice on a discounted rate
I'd really like to give this one 3 1/2 stars. There's really nothing exceptional about the hotel -- aesthetically, it's probably slightly below average for a Hilton -- but it's fine.
The rooms are on the small side (I think they limit occupancy to 2 per room, and that's about right!), and everything is in reasonable condition. The breakfast buffet is good -- at least if you want a proper English breakfast, as the choices beyond that level are a little limited (good fresh squeezed OJ, though).
As previous reviewers have noted, it's about a 4 to 5 minute walk to the Angel tube line which public transport pretty easy (the Northern line is not the BEST for tourists, but with connections it works fine). The neighbor hood seems "real" and "yuppified" with plenty of nearby restaurants -- you could easily dine at a different restaurant for days at any price level.
The hotel seems to pop up frequently in the Islington section on priceline and hotwire, and it's a good property to bid on for 50 pounds or so. You'll be happy paying that price, but at regular non-opaque rates, my hunch is you could probably get better value elsewhere, unless Islington was your specific destination in London.
just okay. nothing special
the hotel is about a 5 mins walk to the tube station and is on a good road for various restaurants and bars.
the rooms were fine, big tv and comfy bed. quite basic - no extra touches. we didnt eat or drink here due the amount of choices nearby.
the staff were okay but not that friendly. i asked for general directions to a nearby area and everyone i asked just told me to jump in a taxi then walked off.
only really stayed here as i got a bargain on hotwire but i would probably give it a miss next time.
Great Hotel
Loved the Hilton Islington. Stayed for two nights on a shopping break to London. Nice area, lots of nice restaurants and bars and some shops, gap, fcuk, m&s etc. Short walk to Angel tube station. Got there early and our rooms were ready, we got ajoining rooms. Beds very comfy, very quiet at night, tea and coffee facilities in room. All the staff were very pleasant. Would stay at this Hilton again.
OK for short stay
I stayed here for one night on a work trip. The hotel was average at best. The bed was hard, the room looked a bit dated (although it did have a nice flat-screen TV). I would not have stayed here but for the fact it was the closest hotel to the office. I would not stay here again if I had a choice, as I have stayed in much nicer properties in London for the same price. But if it is close to where you need to be, it is an OK hotel for a short stay.
A good value for London
Hilton Islington London. 4* Rated.
One Night weekday stay. Hilton HHonors Gold status.
A Hotel review is based on a personal and subjective opinion.
What may be acceptable to you, may not be to me, and vice versa.
Location: Excellent - right on Upper St, and adjacent to Chapel St. Market and Islington. Angel Tube station (Northern Line) 4 mins walk.
Area undergone gentrification, is now somewhat a destination for dining, and reflects authentic London pub/night life.
Lots of great shopping and dining options in immediate area. Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer food stores. Everything you may need within a few mins. Direct Bus and tube access to Theatre land / West end shopping 10 mins away.
Safety: Very good 7/10. Although Big City common sense always applies.
Check in: Easy and good natured. Staff mostly European.
Property: Stakis property managed by Hilton, currently undergoing some upgrades and improvements.
Lobby Restaurant area. Good WiFi - Food and coffee ok, not too overpriced for London.
Room: Non smoking floor - No club room upgrade but not bad - Flat screen tv - Bed too hard.
Internet: BT OpenZone Public areas (Prepaid coupons for sale at Concierge)
Conclusion: A great location to base yourself for all tourist activities. Easy to get to, but far enough from the tourist centers to be a better value.
Consistent budget quality in a city notorious for overpriced, sub standard accommodations.
Stay again? Yes
US rating: Solid 3.5 Star.
Value: Good $$. 7/10
