Cheap bed meant a bad sleep
I read all the reviews for this hotel before booking and certainly went in prepared. The rooms are sparse, the receptionist a bit clueless but all exactly what we expected. However one night was enough for me and I shan't ever stay in a Travellodge again as a result. The bed was so cheap and uncomfortable I hardly slept, nor did my husband.
Best Travel lodge been too
I usually avoid Travel lodges as previous epxperiences have been awful with very poor cleaning standards and generally grim. I rang this one in advance of booking and cheekily asked about their standards! The very friendly and helpful lady assured me she was proud of the improvements she had made and that all Lodges were striving to achieve Brand Standards now. She assured me it would be basic , not brand spanking new fixtures and fittings but V.Clean. She was true to her word. It was absolutly spotless. Well located for the centre. Plenty of places nearby to eat .(within 5 minutes walk.) Room v.big. and fixtures and fittings fine. Staff very polite, helpful, friendly without exception.. In fact I booked it for the second week too.Only thing wouldn't recommend is breakfast bag as full of junk food but plenty of coffee shops near.
Cannot say this was a great stay
I have been to a few travel lodges through work, but this stay prompted my review as the hotel was not well kept. On arrival the room i was given seemed to have the floor shaking as if the generator was below. The reception staff were reluctant to give me another room until the problem was confirmed and were not particularly customer friendly.
These kind of things can be forgiven, but a lack of cleanliness cannot, and in this case the toilet i would go to say had not been completley cleaned before i got to the room.
As an aside to all the reasons above not to stay here, parking is a problem as there is no hotel car park. whilst other travel lodges do have car parks and charge for them, the car park is a public shopping car park charged at £11 per day.
Value near Heathrow
We have stayed in dozens of Travelodges up and down the country as they offer a standard product at budget prices, particularly if you can take advantage of special offers and internet booking.
Location of this Travelodge is excellent within walking distance of the train station and next to the town centre though not on a through road so not noisy. There are a number of restaurants etc nearby. The only downside is that there is no on-site car parking, you park in the shopping centre car park across the road and this was very busy when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon. Parking charges are around £1 an hour up to 6pm and from 7am so can mount up if leaving the car there all day.
Very convenient for Heathrow (10-15 minute drive to central area) which was reason for our stay.
However, compared to many of the Travelodges we have stayed in, our room was a little care-worn and in need of a makeover. Marks on the walls where pictures had been located but which were no more. Only 3 very thin pillows, but more were provided willingly on request to reception. The bed would have benefitted from a new matress also. But the room was clean and at £12 for 3 adults it would be churlish to find serious fault!! Would it be worth the full price though (around £55??)? For 3 adults and adjacent to Heathrow airport, probably.
Cheap and convenient hotel
I'll start with all the good points about this hotel. The hotel was modern, clean and had friendly, helpful check-in staff. My room was clean and had a large bed. The bathroom was clean and the shower was great. I only stayed one night and had a great nights sleep.
I booked this Travelodge in advance and therefore the price I paid was 19 GBP. When I booked I thought this was great value for money, however, there were some hidden costs that were added to this cost. There is no on site car parking so you need to park in the public car park that belongs to the shopping precinct. The cost to park overnight is 11 GBP. Normal check-in time is 1500 and if you want to check in earlier, there is a charge of 10 GBP. If you want breakfast, I believe it costs 7.50 GBP extra.
In total I paid 40 GBP for a one night stay, despite the initial cheap price I got it for around the same as a normal stay. I didn't have breakfast.
The hotel is very close to the main shopping areas and very close to the railway station so would be ideal for someone visiting Staines and needs somewhere cheap and convenient to stay. As I've already mentioned check what costs are applicable to you first.
