A total dump!
Hotel run down and grubby. Room in poor condition. No bath plug, 1 towel, cold water on shower not working, brown marks on wall.
With low standard of customer service and don't expect the manager ever to get in touch with you.
Hot as Hell but cheap and handy
Great if you have no car handy for bus & train and shopping.
Far too hot in the rare English heat wave! If you order a breakfast bag beware at weekends you may be up before the bags arrive or they may forget you!
Many of the staff speak little or no English and do not relay messages effectively.
Be watchful of the Working Mens' Club vomit on the entry. But if you want a cheap clean bed near to London then take it as part of the experience.
Wilkinson's is next door-handy!!!
Not bad overall as i know the area its in
Well knowing the area quite well i know its noisey ish at night so it was to be expected, although there were some good points about maybe double glazing should have been installed for the relief of some customers.
As for the noise, i guess it depends what night you stay so like pot luck. People arent going to stop going out and its not the staffing that is causing the problems outside.
It was good to be able to be near things so you could just pop out and get it and come back.
Didnt eat as i went out for breakfast. But im sure i will try it next time and give a review.
The whole room/bathroom was pretty clean, could have been a little better but no one is perfect. Maybe i should have expected more but with the price i didnt really mind. although if things were really bad i would have said something.
Central location but a bit noisy outside
I would firstly point out that the Travelodge I am reviewing is the new Central one as there are two in Kingston upon Thames. We stayed at this Travelodge for four nights in July. I chose this travelodge as I managed to get rooms for £9.00 per night so for the price I paid it was fine.
I picked this one as it was new and if nothing else would still be in good condition as it was only open a few weeks beforehand. It provided a good base for exploring Hampton Court Palace, kew gardens etc and Kingston upon Thames itself has lots of lovely shops and restaurants, a multi screen cinema and boat trips on the Thames.
Our main worry had been car parking near the Travelodge. There are several around the hotel but we used the Market street one across from the hotel on the basement level as this was cheaper. It only cost £1.00 overnight and is locked till 8am so we felt the car was safe. You just have to navigate a busy one way road system to find the place.
You have to swipe your room card at the main entrance on the ground floor and use the lift to go up to reception and swipe again to access the floor you are on and your room.
First impression was that the room was very small but okay and having looked at the floor plans wished I had booked a family room instead of a double as they would have been bigger with a sofabed for the same price of £9.00 night.
Just glad the hairdryer I had taken had a long flex as the mirror was miles from the plug.
It was all very new and clean. It would appear it is an old office block converted into the Travelodge. It was very hot in the rooms with no air conditioning and if the windows were open you got the noise from traffic and people shouting from bars etc in the area. The noise seemed to travel - like they were on your window ledge. We could see the other Travelodge from our window. I did feel like asking to move to the other side of the building but decided to stay put and just keep the windows shut during the night.
Towels were a bit thin on the ground too but you could ask for more.
We had breakfast in the travelodge two mornings - nothing special but there are plenty of cafes around the place so there are lots of choice.
Overall this is an okay choice if you need to stay in this area and you get the room for a good price.
BAD service!
So first off I guess I should preface this review with the fact that we paid 55 quid a night so pretty cheap for 'London'. The train station and bus station are a few minutes walk away so it's a great location but the major problem here was the staff.
We stayed in the Central travelodge because it was brand spanking new and NOT over a nightclub like the other Kingston one is!
We arrived at reception to check in and found people complaining - not a good start! The standard response from the check-in desk was 'I don't know anything about it so I can't help you' - great service!
The room was clean but basic. You need to get a hairdryer from reception (they don't keep them in the rooms to keep 'costs down'. Maybe that's why they only give you 2 towels.......
We paid for the inclusive breakfast - don't bother - there is a greasy spoon right next door with cheaper brekkies and you won't have to deal with the sullen staff and broken equipment. The first morning we ran in to an immediate problem - when we checked in no one had given us the 'vouchers' for our breakfast. After waiting in reception we finally got our vouchers only to find out that the toaster and coffee/tea maker were both broken. The resulting bundle of wires for the mini kettles and small toaster was a health and safety inspectors nightmare. The 'hot breakfast' was rubbery and NOT WORTH 7.50.
The real problem I had though was with the cleaning staff. They must be paid a pittance because they feel the need to steal food from your room....... Basically don't leave anything edible in your as I'm pretty sure it'll be swiped....... Great way to make you feel comfortable about leaving stuff in your room.......
Only way I would recommend this place is if you're on a real budget.
