I had to spend three days in Croydon for work and stayed here as it was literally across the street from where I needed to be.

You have to enter the building through a rather non descript passageway which you can easily pass by without realising. Reception is on the first floor. The staff seemed to be suffering 'Groundhog Day syndrome' most of the time but they were polite none the less.

The room was very large for a travelodge. It had double glazed windows, which are definitely needed as there seems to be a constant rumble of sirens in Croydon most nights. It was clean and towels were changed every day.

My only criticism is the bed, basically it was far to soft, something akin to sleeping on a bag of spanners. I guess the mattress has just passed its best and needs replacing.

Save from that issue, if you can get a good rate (which I did at £29 per night) then it should be okay if you can do with just the basics.

I did take breakfast, it was okay but not terribly exciting.

I stayed here for one night in October. Everything about this converted office block is completely soulless. Dirty carpet, spartan furniture, sullen staff and poor quality food. Beware the parking! I arrived late in the evening and parked in what i thought was the hotel car park, right underneath the huge "Travelodge" sign. In the morning I went to my car and found it had been clamped. Release fee - £200! There are signs around saying that this is not a Travelodge car park and that clamping is in operation, but these are, clearly, not easily seen in the dark. No one at check-in thought to ask where I had parked my car.

In all, this is a thoroughly depressing place.

PS I raised my concerns over quality and car parking on the customer feedback part of the Travelodge website two days after my stay and asked some specific questions. Eight days later I am still waiting for a response.

Booked with a discount voucher so only paid £32 for the room which is the single best aspect of the stay. There is no free parking and worse than that, no on-site parking and it is a stupidly long walk between their 'recommended car park' and the hotel. You cannot even stop outside the hotel to unload the bags as the hotel is in a buses and taxi route only which has cameras. The recommended car park does not look safe at all, only a few cars there on a Saturday night. You are much better off parking at Fairfield Halls (Past the hotel on the left) for £10 overnight, at least its better lit and manned for at least some of the time.

Onto the hotel, - staff are not in the slightest bit welcoming or helpful, - did not ask if we wanted breakfast or any thing.

The room was tiny, dirty carppets and it didn't look like it had seen a paintbrush for many years. Bathroom tiny and towels thin. only 3 pillows for 2 people staying and I have seen thicker and fluffier rizlas to be honest.

The only plus point about the hotel was its fantastic location but to be honest, spend the extra money and stay somewhere further out of town that is less of a hovel!

Had paid for breakfast when booking the room - and couldnt cancel it. Food served at breakfast was of bad quality, and there wasnt much choice.

I was staying at this Travelodge on the 9th floor for 3 evenings and I'd specifically hidden my valuables in my sports bag which I'd left in the corner of the room. I'd also placed another bag on top and thought I'd left my belongings safe.

I returned to find my iPod had been taken from my bag (iPod was not in view) and I informed the staff who said they'd be in touch. 3 weeks on I'm yet to hear anything from this specific Travelodge or the complaints team at head office.

Therefore I'd urge you NOT to stay in this Travelodge, and if you do TAKE YOUR VALUABLES WITH YOU!!
