I gave this Travelodge a shot out of desperation due to a last-minute change of travel date.

What really surprised me was just how convenient it was. The hotel is a very short walk from East Croydon rail station. A chemist's and a large supermarket well stocked with sandwiches etc are conveniently located between the hotel and the station. That evening I reached London Blackfriars in just 22 minutes and the following day, Gatwick in just 17.

If you're in the UK for shopping, the Whitgift Shopping Centre, just a few minutes' walk away, offers all of your favourite retailers - the big names.

My Double Room was large, comfortable and offered all the usual Travelodge amenities - not much but what there is, is good. Staff were happy to provide coffee to replace the decaf packets left in the room and, when I checked out, the person on desk genuinely seemed interested in my degree of satisfaction with my stay.

There are much less convenient options available for more money. When you first think of it, staying at Croydon seems like a long way out but the closeness of the station makes it actually less remote than, say, the London City Airport Travelodge.

Yes, the water is apparently still not drinkable. Buy a bottle! With the savings here L1 is an affordable expense.

We stayed 6 nights @ L29 a night between two of us. Less than 5 minutes to East Croydon thence 15 mins to London with trains leaving every 5 minutes. Huge room, comfy king sized bed, ensuite bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities. Room cleaned & bed made daily. Breakfast included unlimited juices, milk, tea/coffee/fruit tea/cereal, toast, croissants, muffins, bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, toast. A little overpriced at L6.75 but it does mean you don't need lunch!

Cannot understand the gripes of the other reviewers on here. Travelodge tell you clearly that if you want more towels, pillows, tea, an iron, a hairdrier etc you need only ASK THEM. Don't come on Tripadvisor and moan months later! And you should never drink the water from bathroom taps, in any case!

Stayed at the Croydon Central Travelodge for 2 nights.

Very conveniently located, walking distance to East Croydon station

There is no parking on site. There is a car park (allders) opposite the travelodge but this one is expensive. There is another one just down the road at Whitfield centre where you get discount once your parking ticket is validated at the travelodge.

The room was clean, but did not provide any drinking water. Few shops are nearby for eating like Subway, McDonald, Starbucks.

Room is worth the money.

We arrived late at night and was greeted by a lovely reception staff member. However it went down hill after this I know its a no frills hotel however we booked a double room for 2 people but was given just one towel there is a sign in the bathroom stating that the water can not be drinken therefore you have to buy drinks and bring back to the hotel with you as the costs were rather expensive. We only paid L19 for the room as we booked so far in advance so I cant really complain however these rooms usually go for L50 a night and its 100% not worth that kind of money. Will most defintley never stay here again.

After reading some of the previous revews I was expecting the worst, but what a pleasant surprise!

I was willing to put up with unfriendly staff, poorly maintained building, poor food etc because I needed somewhere to stay for a weekend with good transport links to Central London and at a reasonable price. For only L29 a night I was willing to put up with a few problems.

However, it turned out to be one of the best experiences

I have ever had in a Travelodge. I found the staff very friendly and efficeint both at check in and at breakfast. The hotel was very clean and the room, although basic was one of the largest

I have ever had and was very comfortable. Perhaps I was just lucky being in a room at the back, overlooking office car parks that were not used at weekends, but it was very quiet and I got two very good nights sleep.

The breakfast price of L7 seems a bit steep, but when I had only paid L29 a night for the room, and considering the amount that you are able to eat, if you so desire, it wasn't that bad.

I would certainly stay there again as its so accesible for Central London with East Croydon Station being only 5 minutes walk away. With regular fast trains to both Victoria and London Bridge plus good links to other London stations including St Pancras and Waterloo, all available with a travelcard, it is certainly more accessible than other hotels closer to London that only have tube or bus links
