We stayed here for one night at the end of April after our trip from Asia brought us back to London. We were heading off to Portugal the next day and wanted to find a cheap convenient place to stay for the night near Stansted. As many of you have probably realized, it is impossible to find somewhere around this area at a reasonable price. Travelodge is located just down the highway from the airport and is reachable by taxi for around 13 pounds. As we had been backpacking for the past month and the thought of paying that much money killed us, so we decided to use the public bus route that took us from the lower level of the airport to right outside the front door of the hotel. Just ask at the info desk at Stansted and they will give you a bus route.

We paid ₤30 for the night and ₤10 extra for early check in. As all we wanted to do was get some sleep after our 15 hr flight, it was the perfect place to stay. The staff are very friendly and offer room service and a handy restaurant area. We decided to head out for a walk to grab some traditional english pub fare and found a place down the road that served the best burger and chips (highly recommended). There is a gas station next door to the hotel with very friendly staff that will offer you the snacks and drinks needed for the next part of your travels.

The room was very basic but very clean. I would highly recommend this hotel to a budget traveller who is only planning a 1 or 2 night stop over in the Stansted area. Don’t forget to use the bus route instead of the overpriced taxi fares.

stayed two nights, in area for wedding

pre booked breakfast, room was dirty, food tasted of nothing, plate stuck to the table

decided to cancel second morning breakfast, we were informed that the electric was going to be cut at 9, so no hot food after then, no refund offered

tried to get breakfast refunded to partners card but receptionist informed him she could not authorise and would get the manager to call us on monday, we never heard a dickie bird

have to pay for parking, presumeably to stop poeple leaving there cars for the duration of there holidays, this amount should be refunded by the travel lodge on departure

having stayed at economy accomodation here and abroad this has to be the worst

and travel lodge need to address service provided at this location

If at all possible avoid staying here. The rooms are tired, beds uncomfortable and bathrooms basic to say the least. Breakfast was a trauma, we had to wait at least 15 minutes for a table to then have barely edible substandard food. The hotel was understaffed and I felt that the few staff that were there had a lot to put up with. Toilet roll theft is obviously a big problem because there is a strict policy 1 roll per room, and as my sister found out out if you run out you have to go and ask at reception for more!

I stayed here for two nights in total, one before we flew from Stansted and one as we arrived back in the country. We had two double rooms, one of which was a family room. On arrival at the hotel, we were told that they were currently experiencing a power cut and so could show us to our rooms but there were no other facilities avaliable. There were no backup generators avaliable apart from for emergency lighting (which on our corridor didn't work!). The two girls on reception were very apologetic and clearly frustrated with the power cut as well. They recommended a pub down the road to eat at and hoped the power would be back on, on our return. We returned at around 11pm and there was power which soon went off again, no emergency provision had been thought of such as torches...at least something to see us to our rooms!

For our 2nd nights stay we arrived at around 3.30am and were checked in quickly. Again we had two double rooms, my room had clearly been redecorated recently. However the bathroom floor was soaking wet and the air was so damp in there that even the toilet roll was wet! However as it was by this time around 4am, we decided to leave it til the morning to complain. As we were leaving the next morning, I mentioned to the two girls on reception about the wet floor in the bathroom which had also made the carpet outside wet. They knew immediately which room I was talking about and admitted that someone had left the shower on in that room and that they knew the floor was wet. The room was on the 1st floor and they also admitted that the room below us had experienced water coming through the ceiling from our bathroom! I'm not entirely sure it was safe for us to have stayed in that room.

The beds were also way too soft and you felt like you were sleeping on a waterbed! Everytime the other person moved you felt like you were going to fall out!

This hotel is very handy for early or late flights from or to Stansted, but as somewhere to stay other than that I will not be returning.

This was an overnight stay for an early flight from Stansted; the location was perfect, only 10 minutes drive to the airport. Parking was £3 for the night which we already knew about but some people may not like this, free parking would be better but we didn't mind.

Reception was superb! The young man was very helpful and polite, we rarely see anyone so happy on the desks so this was a refreshing change!

The double room was a good size and also spotless with clean sheets, appliances and bathroom. The bath tub is also a decent size for once which is nice! Our mattress was also new and very comfortable.

This is a newish built Travelodge and we would def recommend it! Could easily stay longer if we had to! It's up to date and clean and we heard no noise from any flight paths. Would stay again!
