Typical Travelodge - Value For Money Hotel
I stayed with my family for 7 nights to do the full London experience. We never ate in the hotel so I cant comment on that. We found we didnt need to as you had a Asda underneath the hotel various other eateries very close by such as Nandos, Pizza Hut, Chiqutoes, Franky and Bennys and Burger places. The hotel is about a 2min walk from the train station. Walk past the MacDonalds and then right at the Subway and you will see the hotel next to the Asda. The rooms are basic but very clean - All you need when youve been out all day. The staff I found to be very helpful and friendly they organised taxis for my family and gave me everything else I wanted (Iron and Ironing board, extra milks, etc). The rooms are quite hot and a little noisy if you have the windows open but it didnt ever wake me or my family up. Overall an excellent hotel for the price and would definayely recommend it for visiting London (about 25mins from Waterloo by train)
You get what you pay for!
Stayed three nights in early August to visit family and do some sightseeing. Staying here proved to be something of an eccentric experience as we had to make numerous trips (from our 8th floor room) to the reception desk (the lifts work well).
The pillow saga: two of us and only two pillows. The receptionist seemed amazed that we might want two pillows each, and she handed over only one extra pillow. Then there weren't enough towels after room service had been in and removed most of them the second day. The receptionist seemed amazed that we might not want to share a single bath towel... had to be quite insistent about this one! The door swipe card kept de-activating. We were told to keep it away from credit cards and mobile phones, but the data still disappeared necessitating further trips to the amazed receptionist. This was particularly irritating at 3 am after the fire alarm went off (false alarm).
We tried a dinner there the first night - two members of staff only to run all the accommodation, bar and catering. Slow service and sticky table but the food was adequate. Breakfast, however, was truly terrible: we got there at 8.45 am and the cooked food had partially run out. What was left - scrambled egg - was dessicated and dry. Tables were still sticky. The breakfasts were better earlier as we discovered on subsequent days - so don't lie in!
We felt the place was being run on a shoestring budget and that corners were being cut in terms of staffing, provisioning and linen. However, the benefits outweigh the niggles as It was convenient for getting to Central London: it's in zone 6 and you can get a travelcard at the station. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The room appeared clean and as we'd only paid £19 per night for two people, overall it felt like a good deal. I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and try it again if I could get a cheap rate.
A bit of a letdown in a number of areas
We chose the Travelodge Feltham for several reasons - its proximity to Twickenham, its value for money, and its situation nearby to shops, facilities and train station. We were 3 adults, each in a separate double room on the 6th floor.
The bedrooms are standard budget hotel quality - very clean, especially the bathrooms, but the noise from the train station could be heard, and disrupted sleep a little.
The cleanliness of the bedrooms contrasted sharply with the public areas of the hotel. The entranceway lobby and lifts often smelled strongly of sour milk, and a couple of times it was clear that spilled substances in the lift from the morning had not been cleaned up by the time we returned in the evening.
We chose to have breakfast and dinner for the 4 days that we stayed in the hotel, and on most mornings we had to request that mugs and glasses be replaced as there were either none around or no clean ones were available. The tables, though cleared after the previous occupants, had not been wiped clean, and were therefore sticky and yucky to sit at. On a couple of mornings we also had to point out to staff that food items had run out before they were replaced.
The food in the evenings was of a good quality, and we would particularly recommend the orange and chocolate puddle pudding for those with a sweet tooth. Service was a little slow, but this is probably because the hotel did not expect guests to stay in for dinner and so were a little unprepared for such a crowd - 3 people! As in the mornings, the tables, though cleared, were not clean, and our hand sanitiser came in useful for cleaning the tables before we ate.
The main problems seem to be down to a lack of staff. More staff would be able to ensure that public areas were properly clean, that needed items were replaced promptly and that guests did not have to wait too long for service.
Cheap, cheerful, clean and convenient!
Right next to the railway station, on top of of a 24hr ASDA, very clean, nice staff. CHEAP! I was working at an art gallery in central London, only took me 25 mins to get to Waterloo for a fiver with a young person's rail card. I reccomend this cheap accommodation for travellers on a budget when seeing the sights of London.
Some aircraft noise but didn't bother us!
