You could do worse than the MacDonald Hotel if you’re on a budget. I was on a tight one, and wanted a cheapo place so I could stay more than one night in London. Last time I stayed at the YHA Central London, but this time I wanted to make sure I got a good night sleep so I wanted a single room. The MacDonald's price was my only option, really.

The hotel is admittedly a bit shabby. My room was small, the bed was lumpy, the duvet was worn out, but it was clean, as was the tiny bathroom. It was quite cold, I don’t think the room was very well insulated and the heat certainly wasn’t on very high, but the blankets were adequate and I slept quite well. The shower is a lovely surprise—lots of hot water and great water pressure! This combined with free wifi made me happy. If you can see past the aesthetics, it’s a decent place to stay. The full English breakfast wasn’t my favorite, but I’m not partial to sausage and beans that early. Still, it’s nice that they offer it.

In terms of location, great for the tube and trains to/from St. Pancras or Kings Cross.

There seem to be a lot of budget places in Argyle square, which seemed a tad sketchy at night, but it was well-lit, so even as a female traveler alone, I felt ok. Had I to do it again, I might check into the YHA St. Pancras, which I saw nearby, but I really did get what I expected at the MacDonald, and what I paid for, so I left pleased.

Nice hotel, well located, friendly owner

It's the perfect hotel if you spend the whole day exploring London and you only are at the hotel to sleep.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast only served until 9am - this is a rather tight schedule.

Macdonald Hotel is located very close to King's Cross/St. Pancras stations.

Very convenient to travel within London city as it is extremely well-connected with various lines that enables you to get to all famous sights in a very short amount of time.

The hotel itself is very well-maintained, our room is very cozy and equipped with flatscreen tv, ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee facilities etc.

Full english breakfast is also included in the price and it is very good and filling.

We stayed for a total of 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer to see more of London.

My daughter and I stayed 3 nights here. It is 1 1/2 blocks from both the Tube and National train station. We were able to get to the Airport by train and saved a lot in cab fare. It was quiet, comfortable and breakfast was good. We met several other guests who were quite interesting over the breakfast table- seemed like a good hotel for seasoned travelers without a major bank account.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. We didn't get an ensuite, but there was a sink in the room and the bathrooms were clean and usually empty. Wifi was accessible in the lobby, but not in our rooms. There was a post office, laundrymat and bank machine close by.
