DO NOT STAY HERE - Outrageous Customer Service
Outrageous Customer Service Do not stays at the Harcourt House, Tophams, Belgravia Mews, or Parklane Mews - all owned by the same group.
I booked a room at Harcourt House on Oct 15th, 2009 and received an email confirmation on Oct 16th for three nights at 90 GBP each night. Upon check in seven days later the reception proceeded to tell me the rate was recently changed for Sat night to 139 GBP. She told me that Harcourt was recently bought out in the last few weeks and the rate was changed. Even though I had a confirmation from just seven days earlier she refused to accept it. She basically stonewalled me with the following statements: well we are not changing the other two nights.... I don't have responsibility to revise the rate.... there is no manager on duty... I can't provide his phone number. So as it was ten o'clock at night, I requested to have a manger call me the next day - no call. This person had no customer service skills, compassion, nor did she attempt to apologize. Her tone and body language was take it or leave it.
I did email upon my return, had a back and forth. Their logic was even more outrageous. Read some other reviews for Tophams, they are very consistent.
You can do better
My work booked me into the Harcourt House Hotel for a week, and it was the weirdest, most useless hotel room. There was no fridge, and just soup from room service cost £12, so I had to keep buying crackers and pre-made sandwiches from Sainsburys every night. There was no table in the room, save for one tiny upended cinder block that was supposed to be a bedside table. The mattress was about as thick as a gym mat, and the sheet that was on it wasn't fitted, and also didn't technically even fit. You could not wash your hair in the shower without opening the shower door so you could extend your arm. The toilet seat wasn't attached properly, so every time you sat on it, it slid off to the side. The wifi cost £5. The sink leaked all over the floor even if turned on just long enough to wash your hands. The only mirror was behind the toilet. I could go on and on.
The room was also tiny and dark and in the basement, with one window, and painted chocolate brown, so it was like living in a cave. And you couldn't keep the window open because it opened onto the garden area of the suite next door.
The walls were paper thin. I could hear the staff arguing as well as other people's phone conversations and televisions.
The only upside was that the tiny shower had really good water pressure, and it was close to Victoria Station. I've stayed in much nicer hotels in London for the same amount of money. I'd never stay here again.
I should add: I stayed there AFTER it was under its new management.
Comfortable Bed in a perfect location
My partner and I just left there today and I think it was perfect for our first time to London. Being so close to Victoria train and coach station is so convenient and as another reviewer said, if you were planning on seeing Wicked or Billy Elliott, then this really is the best place to stay. Only 2 stops from Oxford St in Soho which is convenient too. When we arrived the room allocated to us was undergoing "maintenance" and therefore we had to be in the basement room, which was not a problem at all as we didn't plan on spending much time in the room, however because we were in the basement, the free wifi didn't work which is my only negative comment.
Comfortable bed, clean room, hot shower, all that I'm asking for and Harcourt achieved it.
Nice little hotel
an unobtrusive small hotel just off the main drag next to Victoria, but on a quiet side street. Room tastefully furnished and a really comfortable kingsize bed!!!! Breakfast included in price was brought to the room at requested time. (Croissants, toast, yoghurt, fruit.....). Check in around 14:30 but hotel will look after suitcases. Very good value for money - highly recommended
Great place, great location
Chose this hotel / B&B because of the close proximity to Victoria tube station and many other sites / places to eat within walking distance. En suite triple room was comfortable & clean. Continental breakfast (no hot breakfast here) was good. Would choose this place again.
