More like a Travelodge.....
Stayed one night prior to a transatlantic flight. Not sure what rooms people were staying in who said it was ok, but it was below par for what we paid. DON'T pay full price for the rooms as you can easily book through last minute.com or other online websites for up to a third of the price and for the room we got that is all the it was worth.
We surprisingly had to paid to park which was seemed reasonable at the time, athough tally it up with the room charge, and it rounds the price up to a tidy sum for the Hilton.
Don't eat in the buffet restaurant. What a rip-off. L75 for 2 adults and 1 child under 3....dinner and 2 glasses of wine. The food was run of the mill Little Chef type food and the atmosphere and service, nonexistant.
I suppose, however, that you are paying for the convenience, and convenient it was. Although, next time, we will stay at the Sofitel for the same price.
Lovely rooms
Lovely room, comfortable bed, large shower and separate bath, lots of bottles of lotions, brightly lit, spacious.
An overnight stop at The Hilton
I chose this hotel as it was within walking distance to the South Terminal at Gatwick Airport. Check in was efficient and there was a separate queue for "Hilton HHonors" guests.
When I got to my room the keycard didn't work, so I had to wander down the corridor to find a telephone. I contacted reception and hung about waiting. 10 minutes later I rang again and someone arrived with a replacement card!
The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It did, however, take me some time to work out how to empty the basin in the bathroom! There wasn't a standard plug or a lever. It was a case of pushing down on the plug fitting to pop it up and doing the same again to close it.
Later on I took a wander into South Terminal and brought back some items to put into the fridge. It wasn't working, so an engineer had to be called. The problem was soon sorted.
All - in - all I had a comfortable stay, but I could've done without the delay in getting into my room especially after a long journey.
Ideal for South Terminal
My wife and I stayed here for one night before a trip to Las Vegas. Cost me L150 which included 8 days parking and a buffet meal for two. I booked this through a airport parking website, booking direct with the hotel was L150 without the meal. Perhaps a direct booking would have enabled us to use the hotel car park, not the holiday car park which was a bus drive away and a bit of a pain.
The car park used for check in was too small and we had to drive around the south terminal a few times waiting for a space. At busy times this would have been a nightmare. There seems to be more disabled spaces than regular ones.
Check in was quick and efficient. We were upgraded as the no smoking room given smelt of smoke. The room was clean, modern and easy access to the lobby.
Now here is the problem. A pint of Stella and a large glass of wine was L14 then they added a service charge and the bill asked for a tip. A rip off.
The buffet meal was ok but nothing special, although you could eat as much as you wanted.
The best thing about the hotel is the location, no rushing around in the morning, worrying that the shuttle bus is late and with the twilight checking, no lugging the cases around the south terminal before the flight.
Will defiantly use this hotel again but not drink at the bar. Would have been 5 stars if the food was top notch and the drinks were reasonable.
Very Convenient for South Terminal
Stayed at the Hilton at Gatwick prior to our extremely early morning flight – is very convenient if flying from South Terminal because it is connected to the airport – quite easy to walk from the hotel to the check-in area.
We arrived late afternoon, and reception was extremely busy, was disappointed that there only appeared to be limited staff checking guests in, so had a rather lengthy wait.
Long walk from lifts to room – however, room great, spacious with contemporary furnishing and very comfortable. Great toiletries in Bathroom (Crabtree and Evelyn).
Had been asked what time our flight was, so were offered speedy checkout in the morning, which was a bonus – saving those few extra moments in bed prior to departure at extremely anti social hour…
Overall is absolutely fine as an airport hotel – would not recommend for lengthy stay, but ideal if flying out early or in late… will stay again…
