Location and lots of character.
Only stayed one night in this hotel but would definitely stay again. The hotel had lots of character especially in the main rooms and it had a welcoming feel about it.The staff were polite and effecient and on book in we were upgraded to a superior room. Our room was comfortable, spacious, had a large bathroom and was very clean. The windows had secondary glazing which helped with the noise from the road, which wasn't an issue for us, but I think it helped being on the top floor. The beds were amazingly comfortable. There was a wide selection of food available for breakfast & although the room was full to capacity the staff were well organised and effeicent, everything ran smoothly. It was a nice touch to have a roaring log fire in the breakfast room especially on a cold, damp November morning. I chose the hotel for convenience, it is just over the road from Gloucester Road Tube Station. So was just a short ride to Marble Arch, Oxford Street or Bond Street. Kensington is even nearer and the museums and parks are also within easy reach. Don't forget to get your Oyster Card.
Good value, great location!
Since my usual S. Kensington hotel (Jury's) was closed for renovation, I decided to try the Millennium Bailey and was very pleased! They allowed me to check in early - before noon - and switched me to a nice-sized room with a HUGE bath when the wireless in my first room didn't work. Both room and bath were very clean and comfortable, as were all the public areas. The staff was friendly and helpful. My only gripe would be the high price of breakfast, but there are several moderately priced restaurants (including a Burger King) within a block or so. And the location is great - the Gloucester Road tube station is right across the street, and the hotel is within walking distance of museums, parks and Harrod's (providing you like to walk). I've since recommended this hotel to friends, and would gladly return!
OK room, great location; DON'T USE THE HOTEL PHONE
Booked a great rate on lastminute.com. Hotel was very well located and the rooms were larger than many London matchboxes. It's a bit worn at the edges but generally OK.
Biggest thing that shocked me was the need to make three phone calls, none of which lasted more than 10 minutes. Two were to mobile numbers, the third to a low, flat-rate 0845 number.
Each of the calls cost 41 pounds each, or more than 4 quid a minute. So the savings I made on lastminute.com were erased by 30 minutes worth of calls. Hotel totally unapologetic about the rip-off, which leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. Otherwise, I would recommend the place if you can get a great rate. I guess I learned my lesson -- DON'T forget to take the UK mobile with me when going to London!!!
Makes You Feel Like You are in Another Country
If you are looking for a typical experience in an American hotel, you should not stay here. But if you want the atmosphere and style of historic England, this hotel is an excellent choice. The first thing you notice is the elegant lobby. The staff was curteous (they even held our bags for us after we'd checked out) and efficient.
Yes, the rooms are small, but hotels in many parts of Europe have much smaller rooms than Americans are used to. I can't tell you what the television was like, because I was visiting England! Who has time to sit in the room and watch TV? The bed was on the firm side and my boyfriend could not sleep so we ordered a rollaway; heaven forbid if you need a rollaway bed--it was $60/night.
The room was elegantly furnished, and the bathroom was wonderful and included a deep bathtub and a heated towel rack. The best thing about this hotel, however, was the location. It was across from the Stanhope Arms, a true English-style pub, which had fantastic fish and chips and burgers. Warning: the Guiness is served warm.
The dining prices inside the hotel were ridiculous, but you could go across the street and enjoy fresh pastries at a patisserie, Starbucks (different offerings than the US ones), Burger King (if you're desperate for a greasy taste of home), or pick something up at the little market across the street (good if you have a headache, too; codeine is sold over the counter there!) There were also many fine restaurants down the street, including a steak house.
Most wonderfully, was the ease of transportation. It is right across from Gloucester station, which gets you anywhere in England--including the airport. So you can save a lot of money on transportation. It is also across from a stop on the London Tour Bus.
The price I got through Expedia was perfect, and I highly recommend this hotel. While it's not in central London, it is so easy to get there and convenient.
Lovely Hotel! Location, Location, Location!
Flew to London from Halifax, Canada and stayed three nights at the Bailey's Hotel before moving onto Scotland. This hotel exceeded our expectations, and my expectations are VERY HIGH!. Like most flights from Canada, we arrived early in the morning and I wasn't expecting to be able to Check-in so early. the girl at the front desk advised me I'd have to wait until two or three in the afternoon. They kept all 5 of our suitcases and me and my spouse decided to go for a walk. First we were so hungry because for the past nine hours all we had was Airplane food so we stopped across the street to Tesco and picked up a sandwich. We were so happy there was a Tesco right across the street, that was very convenient. They sold everything from Milk to Razor blades, from Fresh Croissants to newspapers. We then walked up Cromwell Rd which turned into Brampton Rd which took us right to Harrods. It was easy to get there, and about a 20 minute walk. When we got back we checked into our Club queen room. Room was large, and very Victorian style. It had so much charm! Also, free Mini Bar, so that was amazing! I even had to double check with reception twice to ensure I heard correctly.
The breakfast in the morning was nothing short of delightful! A very typical English style Breakfast. The service was prompt, and they all knew what they were doing. One guy hovered over the buffet table like it was his baby, ensure it was always fresh, and was cleaning up after people dropped stuff on the buffet table, it was very well looked after.
Check out was a breeze, and they thanked me for my stay.
I almost failed to mention this hotel is across the street from the Gloucester Tube station which made it easy to get around London. Only a few stops from Parliament Stations and every where you needed to go. The area was safe and I had no problem walking around at night.
My stay in London would not of been so enjoyable if it wasn't for this hotel. The comfortable Bed, large room, amazing staff and it's fabulous location all made my trip perfect!
