About The Bird's Nest

Birds Nest used to be called Oxford Arms which was arguably the first theatre in the whole wide world to have an attachment with a pub. Deptford has a rich navel and creative history, like the St. Nicolas Church which has two skulls with laurel wreathes on crossed bones displaying the message that death is not final and that it can lead to everlasting life, this inspired local privateers sailing from Deptford to adopt them for their pirate flags so (now you know). Sir Francis Drake sailed from Deptford on his round the world trips and let's not forget one of Deptford's great locals Christopher Marlowe, whom rumour has it was Shakespeare and then there is the one that Shakespeare stole the idea of Hamlet amongst a few other pieces of great work, this area is the most vibrant artistic and musical scene in London.

Situated two minutes from Deptford station the oldest surviving train station in London. The Bird's Nest public house and hostel stands on the sight of the area's oldest pub once called Oxford Arms. Once a theatre, the second and third floors of The Bird's Nest is now a hotel which specializes in international backpackers and students which houses a 40 bed hostel with optional single, double and four and six bedded dorm rooms. Down stairs the Bird's Nest is one London's most exciting and vibrant musical venues, offering live music 4 nights a week as well as cheap food for hostellers (average meal price for hostellers £2), a great selection of drinks, free internet access in bar and common room plus free Wifi in the entire building and courtyard, a pool room and a great atmosphere.
