not clean, no minimum services for 4 star hotel
3nights hotel accommodation during world travel market - i'm specialist in tourism - 2 nights without heating , no room service for the one day - 3rd day electricity problem without emergency plan - not hot water, no hot breakfast - and finally no protection of the customer rights
Close to Paddington Station
Our room was so terribly small. It was supposed to be a king bed room, but was really a queen bed. They said that was their "king" bed. The bathroom was so small two people could not be in it at the same time. The decor was very nice - very pretty contemporary styling. Good fabrics. But, it was just too small - especially the bed. We were uncomfortable all night.
We were very tired after our flight and it was very convenient to stay just outside the door of Paddington Station where the Heathrow Express comes in. There is a MacDonald's next door to the hotel that had the best coffee. So, that was helpful. Reception staff were unpleasant.
Having read the mixed review bag on TripAdvisor we decided to book - and are bloody glad we did
OK: normally I'd avoid anything with the words Quality and Crown in the title; but we found this hotel on TripAdvisor and after thinking about it, we decided to book. We wanted a convenient, clean, central and no-frills hotel near Paddington as the station has the Heathrow Express and great underground (tube) connections. We spent two nights there. Internet bookings were punctual and no fuss. The room was ready on arrival (At 13h30) and the greeting was sincere. Third floor and road facing. Not too noisy with the window shut and the aircon on at all (as some have claimed on this site) - we slept well and peacefully (but hey; this is LONDON not the Lake District!)
The room contained a double bed and we could comfortably walk around it with two suitcases against the wall. A dressing table, cupboard, tea and coffee station and a small bathroom (toilet, basin on a stand with hairdryer that worked) and a shower big enough for one. Could we ask for more at the price? No way! Friends had offered for us to stay with them, but as two adults wanting a bit of bathroom space and privacy we declined and booked this. It was superb for the price and we wiul lreturn time after time. The station is a 1 minute walk away. Shops and restaurants, plus pubs, abound nearby. There are plenty of taxis and the whole episode was great.
Avoid GArfunkels - the restaurant attached to the reception and walk 50 metres down the side street for a choice of cheap and cheerful breakfast delis, cafe's and there's even a fish and chip shop if you want one plus all the usual fast food suspects within two minutes walk. It was great. Avoid what the moaners say on this site. We loved it.
Appalling value and very noisy
First impression was poor as the doorman opened the door for me but did not offer to help me with my heavy suitcase up the steps to the hotel.
We had requested a quiet room at the back. The receptionist assured me it was at the back. I took her at her word. The room was very small but very modern. However the beds were rock hard, the room was stuffy and the buses stopped and started all night right outside our window which was - despite our requests - on the main street. We called at 1.30 am having had no sleep to ask to change to a quieter room. We were told we would be charged extra and there was only one single available. We stayed in our room and had an almost sleepless night, the day before taking a long-haul flight.
We will never return to this hotel. We got an apology the next day but nothing else. Apart from its proximity to Paddington it has nothing to commend it.
DISAPPOINTMENT RIGHT FROM THE RESERVATION
I did not stay at this hotel but to write this commentary Tripadvisor asks us to give an average rate. I rated excellent based on some reviews I read here, but I have never been to this hotel.
I just want to evaluate the reservation quality of Quality Crown Paddington Hotel. I made a reservation for the period 9 to 14nov2009 and was shown a confimation number. As the Central Reservation Office did not send me a confirmation e-mail, I asked by telephone about 5 times to send me it. I also sent about 3 e-mails begging for the confirmation e-mail, which never came. So on 30 nov 2009 I cancelled my reservation by telephone with Alina and was given the cancelation number X415703. I do wish they cancelled my reservation and I not be charged equivalent to one night's stay. Perhaps now I would finally receive at least the cancelation e-mail. Would you trust your reservation is assured if the hotel does not send you a confirmation e-mail after booking?
