Lonely Planet review of B+B Belgravia

This B&B, stunningly remodelled in contemporary style, boasts a chic black-and-white lounge where you can relax before a fire or watch a DVD, and 17 earth-toned rooms that aren't enormous but have flat-screen TVs. To our mind, it's truly the direction midrange accommodation should take in London. Guests get to use hotel bicycles for free.

Great location, great breakfast, cramped for a family
I stayed here for 4 nights with my family (2 adults & 2 teenage kids) - we had the large room on the gound floor - Room 5 as I recall - which has a double bed and then a little ante room with 2 single beds before you reach the bathroom. While i think for London this B+B is great value, it really is too cramped for anything more than a couple. This room also gets a lot of noise from the front door opening and closing all night.
The cooked breakfasts were fantastic & a great start to a big day of London sightseeing - we stocked up on water & fruit for the day too, which was encouraged.
The staff were absolutley fine - it is not a Mum & Dad run B&B so i did not expect a 'soul'.
The website flatters the property a bit - it is a little grungier than it looks, but for London it is great value.
Creak, creak, BANG
This B&B is in a great location, close to Victoria Station from which we arrived and Victoria Coach Station from which we departed. We found some reasonably priced restaurants nearby and were able to stroll home one evening after watching the musical Wicked. We also enjoyed the free internet and the lounge area. Those were the plusses. The negatives were the tiny room and bathroom. We stayed for 5 nights so we found it very cramped. If you were only staying for 1 or 2 nights this probably wouldn't matter. The main problem was the noisy doors. All the noisy doors! Every time a door closed, either the bathroom door, the door to the room or a neighbour's door it went "creak...creak...creak...crrrrr.............BANG!" You couldn't hurry this performance up or slow it down. It must have something to do with the hinges on the doors. I know it sounds picky but it sent us crazy and would stop us returning to this well run B&B.
Cosy and convenient
B & B Belgravia is very conveniently located -- we came in from Gatwick and were able to walk with our wheeled suitcases the two blocks to the B&B. The photos are a bit misleading -- the common rooms look larger than they actually are and the swish furniture is Ikea all the way. The access to the internet is clunky and we could not use it. Nonetheless, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The concierge helped us to get one of our bags to the third floor (we had requested ground floor but that did not materialize) and the staff were kind enough to send us in Canada a few things that we forgot in the room. For this we would forgive any minor irritations. From our B&B, we walked to Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and found it relatively easy to master London buses going to and from Victoria. The breakfast is exceptionally good with a chef offering to cook eggs or omelet of your choice, and endless other possibilities. The rooms are small and expensive compared to expectations -- but what do you want for central London.
Great for a one night stay
We stayed at the Belgravia on our way to Italy and it fulfilled our needs for a quick one night stay.
Pros: Location was convenient to Victoria Station (5 minute walk with rolling suitcase) and the hop on, hop off tour bus. Quiet street, nice, pleasant decor. Room was small but clean, shower was good and our request for a bright room was met with one overlooking the 'garden'. Breakfast was plentiful with made to order eggs, good coffee, yogurt etc.
Cons: A previous reviewer wrote about the B&B having 'no soul'. Unfortunately I concur...we did not see a single staff member there who seemed genuinely invested in customer service which is the staple of a B&B. Upon checkin there was no manager to formally greet us, no staff member to explain even the basics such as the security code for the front door, how the cappucinno machine worked, breakfast hours etc. Our impression was that this was a self serve establishment where we were expected to figure things out on our own.
In our case the pros outweighed the cons during our brief one night visit since we literally only had half a day in London and needed to be in a convenient location to transfer to Gatwick.
However for longer stays I would definitely rule Belgravia out for their lack of customer service and involvement with their guests. Structurally and location wise it is a very nice establishment, but could be so, so much better.
Super Location
We really enjoyed the location of this B and B. We walked everywhere and saw all the sights we wanted to see in London. This B and B is located in the most expensive area of London and is a block away from Buckingham Palace. Also a block and a half away from the tube station.
The room itself was very small but comfortable. The breakfasts were very good with lots of variety. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again just for the convience alone.
