Great experience
My wife and I just got back from a stay at Aster House for our honeymoon. It definitely exceeded our expectations. The managers are extremely attentive and are always available to help. The location in South Ken is great - just a couple of blocks from the tube, but on a quiet residential street.
We were in room number 12, which was on the third floor. There is no elevator, but the stairs were not a problem at all. The room faced the back of the property, so we had no issues with noise at all. The room was small as expected, but the bathroom was very nice - updated with new tile and marble throughout.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great value in a great location.
Wonderful B & B in London
My daughter and I stayed for 6 nights and had a great time in London. We used the underground to get everywhere. The station is a 5 minute walk from Astor house. It is a quiet neighborhood with restaurants, pubs, bakeries, Starbucks, post office and more close by. Our room was very comfortable. It was room #7. Had 2 front windows , 2 single beds pushed together , a small vanity, a desk with a small TV. The TV only got about 6 channels. But we were not there to watch TV anyway. There was a safe in the room and a shower in a small newly refirbished bathroom. We had a very filling breakfast every morning. It included eggs, fruit, danish, pastry, cheese, yogurt, jams, toast, breads, juice, coffee, teas, and more..We were able to check in early and our last day left our luggage in a designated area for storage till we left London ..There was Wi Fi in the room and a computer downstairs for a cost per hour..I would stay at Astor house again and hopefully will some day.
Very positive experience at Aster House!
My husband and I had three lovely nights at Aster House. Our room, room #1, was spacious and airy. It was also very quiet which was a real plus. The owners were very helpful and went out of their way to satisfy the guests. The area is great -- very close to the underground and to Kensington Gardens. We would definitely return.
Great Location and Value
My husband and I went to visit a close friend of mine in London and needed to find a place to stay that was not too expensive (especially since the American dollar is so weak against Sterling) and was close to the Tube. The Aster house was perfect for us!
First of all, it is located in a wonderful, safe neighborhood and is only a few minutes walk from the South Kensington subway station (District Line). It is situated on a more quiet side street in a lovely Victorian house, which is easy to find.
The owners were friendly and helped us arrange taxis, etc. The breakfast was served in a very pretty conservatory and there was plenty of fresh and tasty food. Our room was small and plain but it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was all marble, but was VERY small and only had a shower. For a London hotel, we thought the price(about $220 a night), the room, and the overall hotel experience were wonderful.
Outstanding Location
I stayed at the Aster House for 10 days in February 2008, in one of the standard single rooms. First, let me say that the location of this pleasant bed and breakfast is absolutely perfect. It's a one-minute walk to the South Kensington tube station, and within half a block you'll find a grocery store, post office, Starbucks, pharmacy and at least 15 restaurants. That said, the neighborhood still feels cozy, safe and residential. I was traveling alone, but I always felt safe there.
The Aster House isn't a luxury hotel, but I didn't want for anything. Although my bathroom was small, it was very clean and recently refurbished. After traveling quite a bit through Europe, I sigh in relief when the shower drains effeciently and there's lots of hot water!
My room was small, too, but the bed was comfortable, and everything was clean. Each room has its own thermostat, and I had a hair dryer and safe, as well.
The buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. It's fairly generous -- much more than just croissants and juice. The buffet includes cheese and cold cuts, yogurt, pastries, breads, fresh fruit, nuts and dried fruit, toast on request and a changing selection of hot items, such as eggs and sausage. Food is so expensive in London that having such a spread for "free" is quite a bonus, especially if you're on a budget.
The Aster House has a computer available for those who want to check e-mail. The rate is one pound per half hour. During my stay, the staff was having some trouble with the connection, but they always called my room to let me know when it had been fixed.
Speaking of the staff, they were friendly and helpful, always ready to answer my questions. The next time I'm in London, I'll be making a reservation here again!
