This hotel was SUCH a disappointment. The staff (front desk) was extremely rude. We booked online 3 months prior to arrival, and got a rate of 65 pounds a night (stayed for 3 nights). We asked to view the room before we checked in... it was on the TOP floor, 6 flights of stairs with our huge suitcases, and of COURSE no help was offered by the lazy and unhelpful front desk staff.

When we asked for a different room (they gave us a single room for the two of us and it was practically in the attic, slanted roof and all, one tiny tiny window that barely opened), he told us they were fully booked, and we were paying a very cheap rate so shouldn't expect much!!!! Brutal.

The day after we went next door to a cute hotel, and they were ready to offer us the same rate as Gower... if we had only known.

The room was DIRTY, in disrepair, the TV didn't even work properly. The breakfast was just disgusting, in the basement (7 flights of stars!) and a complete microwave meal, complete with instant coffee. Awful.

The ONLY thing this hotel had going for it was location, other than that, STAY AWAY! I would never stay there again... even if you paid me!

The hotel has at least 2 BIG problems:

1. The head of the shower is impossible to use (Room 202);

2. There are insects which bite us so badly. We returned from London from 4 days and we had to go to doctor twice to treat the insects’ bites on our bodies. I don't want to mention the costs and the hurt...

My honestly advice: Don't go to any hotel on Sussex!!!! All the hotels in this area are owned by Cypriots or others and this is a very big problem: filthy, cheap, insects.

Much better to pay a little more but at least you'll return home HEALTHY.

Stayed here for 1 night to be close to our family before they returned to Australia. It is close to Paddington station (trains to Heathrow) but it didn't have much else going for it. We were on the top floor, and because it was just a one nighter fortunately we had no luggage as the stairs would have killed us - 6 flights up I think it was.

It was at a really hot time in London so we had to open our little window to get any ventilation. The room was tiny and the bathroom tiles missing and the shower head beyond broken.

The breakfast was crap and in the basement level so 7 flights down for us. We only paid £70 a night though which is about as good as it gets in London during the Summer so really we couldn't complain too much.

A month later we were charged by the Athena hotel - as when we booked online both hotels make a reservation in case of over-booking (they are 'sister' hotels). As we did not show (because we were across the road) they still charged us. It took about 3 days to get my money back so wasn't too stressful - but I definately think this is a scam against people who can't be bothered to get there money back and would recommend if you book make sure the other hotel doesn't charge you!!!

for £70 a night it was probably what you would expect in terms of size and convenience, but the room was in desperate need of repair - there are probably better places to stay !

This hotel is exactly what you pay for it, its not the hilton or the ritz but its cheap. Its basically just ur average bed and breakfast, dated/in need of refurb/basic but if u put all the to one side it is a good hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and did not hav a problem at all. The breakfasts in the moring were very good in my eyes. Only one thing I do reccomend is if u book online make sure u take confirmation with u, as when we checked in, they sid we had only booked for 2 nights and tried to charge us alot more than we had booked to pay for 3 nights but because we had taken our confirmation down with us it was sorted quickly. Also the hotel is very close to paddington station which from there u can pretty much get the underground to anywere.

Stayed at the Gower when visiting London from the US.

Made my booking monthes in advance, and confirmed reservations before arrival, but when I arrived they had no record of our reservations, and denied they had ever spoken to us. We had to sit in the lobby for 4 hours until they straightened it out.

We had originally booked a double room, but ended up with a tripple, which we shared with another person whose booking they had also lost.

The room was clean, but the water pressure in the bathroom was eratic, and often we had no running water. When we did get water, there was no hot water. We had to take very short cold showers. We ended up buying bottled water to use when the sink and shower weren't working.

The cleaning staff was very overworked, I felt bad for them.

The only really good thing was the breakfast. It was very nice.
