Don't go there, it's a dump!
Don't go there! I stayed in hostel 639 with my friends for the notting nill carnival, and I will never go back there again!
this place is filthy and run down, there are bedbugs in most rooms, and one of my friends got a terrible rash from mites living in the bed.
reception staff is ok, but security is very rude and unfriendly, and think they control the place.
some of the people living there look like they are homeless, and there is a huge cemetery at the back of the hostel: charming!
I absolutely advise you not to go there, even if it is cheap, you only get what you pay for: not a lot!

horrible!!!!!full of bugs and dirt.........
do not book in this hostel!!!!! it has been the worst place i've ever been in, and trust me, you cannot even immagine how bad this place is! as soon as we got in , we got hit by the terrible smell of an unclean place, and i think it hasn't been cleaned for years.the receptionnist spoke bad english, i guess she was brazilian or something, the room was horrible, the sheets were unclean and the garbage bin hadn't even been emptyed before we came so there were still used tampons, papers and other stuff in it. The shower was broken so it was almost impossible to shower there. during the night bugs came out, so the next morning i had to kill some of them on the bed...they were full of blood that they sucked from us the previous night,at this point i got really pissed off and completely horrified went in search of another place to stay. I made a scene so they gave us the money back, fortunately they had no objection. I would never even immagine one can actually stay in a place like this...besides it had very weird clients in there, even prostitutes living there i think....have no words to describe the night i passed in there....please avoid it, for your own safety!
Do not stay here, don't give them the business!
The only consolation I could find in staying here is that I got it for free as a package deal when I booked a flight with my travel agent. If I wasn't getting it for free, I would not have stayed here beyond my first night.
I arrived to a filthy room, complete with used towels and sheets, and used condoms in the bin...which only drew my attention to exactly how "used" my sheets were. When I went to report this to the reception staff they barely batted an eyelid, and made me pay for the provision of clean linens. All other requests or questions made to the reception staff throughout my stay were met with huffs and puffs and rolling of eyes, as I disturbed their time on facebook by asking them for a map.
Staff in the internet cafe were even worse. Completely rude and indifferent and clueless as to the operations of the hostel.
Checkout was also a nightmare, I won't go into it but suffice to say I've never seen a more inefficent system, which was the source of great frustration after days of staying here.
The only decent thing about this place is that it is across the road from a tube stop that is on a convenient line. However, Kensal Green is nothing to speak of anyway so you'd be better off somewhere else.
I don't care how cheap this place is, don't stay here. They don't deserve any more business. And I get the feeling they're doing the dogdy in more ways than one. Find a decent, friendly hostel to stay in and don't consider this place as an option.
Bring your own cleaning stuff, food , bed sheets....
The first view upon the so called 'Hostel' caused some laughter ... not of joy, but of shock.
The building itself looks like an old office building and as soon as you enter the building, the impression changes into a prison.
We'd announced our check-in time for 1 pm. We arrived an hour to early, so as we entered our room the floor was (still) dirty, the bin was still full (two bags of rubbish left), the smell was of old cigarettes and there was standing an old dirty mattress with stains (don't want to imagine WHAT kind of ...) besides the door. The beds weren't made either.
We thought this was because we arrived to early, but after nearly two hours waiting the cleaning staff still hadn't arrived.
So we went down to the reception and asked when we can except our room to be cleaned. The lady told us, the staff will be there soon. So we waited and after another half hour someone came (wordless) in the room and took the rubbishbag. The dirty floor and beds (including the mattress) remained. After this 'room cleaning' we went down a second time to ask if the rest will be cleaned, too. The lady told us, now nerved, that it is a step-by-step process. The fact, that our announced check-in time was already scored, didn't seem to matter.
Every guest would except a clean and tidy room by check-in. I don't think this is such a big deal.
We decided to do a little sight-seeing until the evening and hoped to come back and find the room finaly cleaned.
And, surprisingly, it was. The floor was still all over with dirt, but we were able to live with that.
I don't want to describe the excact condition of the shower... but you should bring some anti-bacterial cleaning stuff with you.
On the third day of our stay we saw how the shower and sink were 'cleaned'. An old, grey stained towel was used to wipe over... that was it.
The toilets on the corridor were in a more than awfull condition.
I don't recommend hostel 639 even to my worst enemy
