It's not every day London hosts the Olympics, so get involved by becoming a London 2012 volunteer!
From helping out at the Games to volunteering in the run-up to London 2012, there are lots of ways to do your bit – and be part of Olympic history.
Volunteering at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Some 70,000 volunteers are needed to help the Olympic and Paralympic Games run smoothly. That may sound like a lot, but with more than 7.5m people in London alone, places are likely to go fast.

What Will Volunteers Do at the Games?
Key volunteer tasks at the Olympic and Paralympic Games will include helping out with spectator services, language services and medical care.
Successful applicants will fall into one of two categories:
- Specialist volunteers: who bring existing skills or qualifications to their role, such as sport or medical training
- General volunteers: who do not need specific skills or qualifications and will be given full training to volunteer in event services, uniform distribution and Olympic Village operations
The official Games-time Volunteer Programme launches this year to help train volunteers in preparation for 2012.
Volunteering Before 2012
You don't have to wait until the Games start in 2012 to start volunteering. Here are some ways you can get involved during the run-up to London 2012:
- Become a trailblazer volunteer: help the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) get ready for the Olympics by working one day a week in their Canary Wharf offices
- Join Changing Places: if you live in one of the Host Boroughs located around the Olympic Park, get support to improve your local area
- Volunteer in your local community: there are many opportunities to volunteer across the capital, from volunteering outdoors to helping out at sporting events.
